Convert Video To Frames
On this page we'll see how to turn a video file into a sequence of consecutive images.
The first step in our edition is to convert the movies into image sequences to remove defective frames, ie. those whose image is blurred due to the vibration caused by wind hitting the camera or the parabolic mirror. For this conversion we have chosen to use . When the program starts we see a screen like the one shown below. To begin using it we'll click on the first Browse button to open the dialog box where we'll select the video or videos to be converted into frames :
We'll select both files to edit them at once :
After accepting the dialog box closes and back in the program's main window we see that the selected files are already on the list of videos to be processed. We still need to determine a location for the output files to be created. We'll navigate to the choosen folder by clicking on the second Browse button :
It then opens a dialog box that will allow us to navigate to the folder of our choice and confirm our selection by clicking on OK :
Now in the main window we see the location of the video files to be processed is loaded and also the location of the files to be created. We also have four options to choose from for the frequency of the frame's extraction but we'll leave the default option Each frame (Cada fotograma) to keep movements natural within the movie. We are ready to begin the extraction by clicking on Extract (Extraer) :
As the process goes we see a progress indicator :
The same indicator tells us when the process is over :
Also a separate notice shows us the conversion has ended succesfuly :
In the locaion we had choosen are now two new folders which we can identify by their names with the movie files related to each one :
Within the folder corresponding to the file named video_original_01 we find 3327 image files at a rate of 30 of them by second during the whole movie lenght of almost two minutes :
Likewise, within the folder corresponding to the other video_original_02 file we find another 3000 images extracted from it :
The frames extracted from the movies are similar to the one below, which begin the series :
Having the image sequences to replace the video files allows us to have a frame by frame control which otherwise would be difficult to achieve. Before editing the sequence, however, we prefer to convert the 360 donut shot on each image into a panorama to get a better vision of the whole scene.
