Spherical Photographs With Nadir Cap
The use of a nodal rotator makes it possible to photograph complete spheres without assembly errors but also, its presence in the photographed scene poses a new challenge : how to hide it. The easiest way to do this is to cover them with a nadir cap featuring a pictues or logo.
Stitching errors between images are more obvious the closer the photographed objects are to the camera. For cylindrical panoramas it is generally enough to locate the tripod far away enough from any object to get good results, because in the process of editing the picture the remapping errors are dragged to the limits of the image, where they become imperceptible :
When photographing spheres, however, it is impossible to put every object away from the camera as even the ground where the gear is held is itself a nearby object in the picture, and to drag assembly errors to the ends is impossible a because spherical image has no boundaries and errors become unavoidably evident in the upper and lower areas of the scene :
In other words, it is not possible to photograph whole spheres correctly unless the camera turns on the exact nodal point of the lens, and it is not possible to achieve this without the aid of a nodal rotator. Whether you use a Fisheye lens or normal lens, the nodal rotator is inevitably part of the scene and it will always be registered in the shots. In this chapter we will see how to minimize the presence of rotator on the scene and how to hide the part of it which happens to be impossible to remove completely.
