Interactive Panorama Online Publishing
How to transform a panoramic photo into an interactive Virtual Tour with a single click.
On this page we'll discover step by step how we can transform a panoramic photograph into a lively and interactive Virtual Tour by just uploading it to 360 Facil, from where we can publish it to any webpage or share it across the web.
For this demonstration, we will replace the flat panorama that we have inserted into a webpage in the previous chapter, by the same panorama but in motion and with the possibility of being traveled in an immersive way. We'll perform the task in two steps :
Upload A Panoramic Photograph To The Online Virtual Tour Creator
To get started, we'll upload the panoramic photograph to the Online Virtual Tour Creator from its location in our hard disk :
When we open the page the first thing we find is two options: Find an existing Virtual Tour (encontrar un tour virtual existente) or Create a new Virtual Tour (crear un nuevo tour virtual). We'll click on the second :
This leads us directly to the form to upload photographs found below in the same page. We'll click on Browse to display the dialog box from which we'll select the image to upload :
We look for the image in its current location and click on Open to select it :
The form also includes several boxes where we can enter additional information to our panorama. None is compulsory but it is highly recommended to include a Password to be able to work later on the panorama, either editing the information or removing the image from the database.
The page is prepared to recognize by itself the panoramic image type based on its dimensions. However, if it is a Fisheye Shot or a Partial Panorama, it would be necessary to mark it with a tick in the corresponding box. Once again, it is convenient to save a password because it will be required if we would like to change the type of projection once the image is uploaded. When the form is completed, we'll click on Send Image Now / Enviar Imagen Ahora :
After a few moments we will see that a new page is loaded, similar to the previous one but with the image and the data we just sent. A message confirms that the current photograph has just been loaded. If we have used the form to publish an email address, in the box corresponding to it we'll find a notice or reminder of the publication of our new Virtual Tour. It only takes to click on the image to launch the interactive Virtual Tour automatically created from it :
Scrolling down the page we'll find several options to go on working with the same panorama. There is a form to add comments. The comments are open, anyone can publish one. If we have been cautious enough as to save our image with a password, we can use it to moderate comments to our panorama :
Likewise, to know the password for a Virtual Tour will allow us to modify the attached information or change the projection type at any time. For example, we could decide to play a Cylindrical Panorama as if it was a Spherical or Partial one :
Further down we find the form which will allow us, given we do know the password, to completely remove the panorama and the attached information from the database :
Newt we find a few options to share the Virtual Tour corresponding to the page across other sites, emails, social networks, etc. Among them we'll mark the option that interest us. We'll go back to it but first we'll a brief look at the rest of the page's options :
The next form allows us to enter our data and data about a friend to send him/her an automated invitation to visit the present page :
Next, search boxes for keywords and a thumbnail's gallery will let us find the image we look for or those we'd be interested on :
Although we have stopped for introducing all the features of the Online Virtual tour Creator, the important thing is that we could effortlessly upload our photo and immediately see it transformed into a Virtual Tour. It only remains to include it on the webpage of our choice :
Inclusion Of A Virtual Tour In Our Own Page
To fulfill our proposal of including the animated Virtual Tour instead of the flat photograph that we had included in a webpage in the previous chapter, we return to the folder where we had saved the files we used. As we did in the previous chapter, we will open the pagina.htm file both with a browser and a text editor. We'll work with a simultaneous view of both windows, as we had been doing :
We'll begin by identifying in the page's code the reference to a static or flat image that we had included :
After identifying the reference we'll fully select it so, when pasting a new code in this place, the new item replaces the old one :
Out of the many options that the Online Virtual Tour Creator offers us to share a Virtual Tour, we'll choose Insert Medium Virtual Tour (Insertar Tour Virtual Mediano). We could have chosen to insert it in another size, to add a window with attached data or to make the Virtual Tour float. Likewise, we could have chosen to publish a link instead of directly inserting the Virtual Tour. The options are several and we choose the one that satisfies us most. We'll use the mouse cursor to select the code provided under the title chosen and copy it to the clipboard :
Returning to the opened window of the text editor, we will paste the copied code over the element that we had chosen to remove :
From the File menu we'll click on Save to confirm the changes :
On refreshing the page in the browser, we see that the static image has disappeared and in its place is inserted a window with the interactive Virtual Tour in animated movement :
The address bar confirms us that while the page is in a private location such as a file stored locally on our computer, this is not an obstacle to insert therein a functional Virtual Tour created and stored in a public location on the Internet.
This is a view of the modified page. Click on the image to view the actual page in a separate window :
From the next page we will see how to create pages with interactive Virtual Tours entirely under our control, linking and editing all the necessary files in a folder on our local computer without any linking with the Online world.
